Fields Obtains Defense Verdict

Stephen Fields defended a hospital on a fall that occurred in a parking lot.  Plaintiff claimed she slipped and fell on ice in the parking lot.  The defense contended there was no ice in the area of the fall.  Plaintiff told the paramedic and ER nurse that she stepped off of a curb, felt a pop, and rolled her ankle.  Plaintiff suffered a fracture to her right ankle that required multiple surgeries.  The charged medical bills were in excess of $150,000.00.  Plaintiff claimed ongoing pain and suffering as a result of the injury.  The defense medical expert confirmed that the fall was more likely a result of a misstep as opposed to a slip and fall on ice.  The jury returned a verdict in favor of the Defendant.  Plaintiff’s last settlement demand was $175,000.00, and no settlement offer was made.
